The Yale University Collection of Musical Instruments hosts this year’s meeting. Yale’s collection, one of the oldest of its kind in the U.S, grew from the collection given to Yale by the co-founder of the New Haven Symphony Morris Steinert in 1900.
It now numbers about 1,000 items, including a collection of keyboard instruments unsurpassed in the world. Andreas Ruckers is represented by one of his Antwerp harpsichords built in 1640, and eighteenth-century instruments include one of François Etienne Blancet’s harpsichords. Wind instruments from the ninth century, Lyre-guitars from the eighteenth century, and odd horns from the nineteenth century will all be on display during the society’s meetings.
