York Christmas Early Music Festival
26-10-2007
The 2007 York Christmas Early Music Festival (7–10 December) packs 12 events into four days.

Highlights include the opening concert in which the Clerks’ Group perform Marian and Christmas music from the 12th to the 16th centuries in an evocative sequence of chant and polyphony from the Parisian conducti of the 12th century through to the elaborate motets of the early Renaissance.

They are followed by the Rose Consort of Viols with soprano Catherine King and then Safar’s musical exploration of the silk road at the time of Marco Polo, going from the Christian world to the sounds of the Mogol empire of Kublai Khan.

There are also performances of Klezmer and Sephardic music by The Burning Bush, the screening of I Fagiolini’s new film of “The Full Monteverdi” and a fascinating recital of music for violin and guitar by Elizabeth Wallfisch and David Miller.
