The Sixteen
Streams of Tears
Wed 28 Feb Queen Elizabeth Hall 7.30pm
A concert of penitential music from the Iberian Peninsula and Mexico, from the period known as the 'Siglo de oro', when Spain and Portugal were masters of the great ocean and developing new lands in the Americas. This was a time when the church had money as well as a great appreciation of art in the service of faith, not only in the ducal courts of Spain and Portugal but in the new cathedrals of Mexico, which attracted the likes of Spanish composer Juan Guttierrez de Padilla to emigrate to the New World.

Thomas Trotter
Bach: Six Trio Sonatas, BWV.525-530
Sat 31 Mar 2007 Queen Elizabeth Hall 7.30pm
The charm of JS Bach’s Trio Sonatas belies the fact that they are among the most difficult of his organ works to perform, though they sound effortless in the hands of Thomas Trotter. The Flentrop organ in the Queen Elizabeth Hall was built in 1966 with the music of Bach and his contemporaries in mind, and is ideally suited to the music of this period, showing the clarity of Bach’s musical architecture to perfection.
