Mozart also plays an important part in the program. Once again the festival reveals its open and innovative attitude in its combination of original and bold presentations with more traditional programs.
Among the Festival’s highlights, it is worth mentioning Red Priest’s concerts on 1 & 3 October, programs that are always presented in a magical and surprising manner. On 7 October Belinda Sykes’s group Joraglesa will perform a concert entitled “Diáspora”, with Jewish and oriental music and Florilegium conducted by Ashley Solomon will perform Bolivian baroque music from the Missions of Moxos and Chiquitos.
On 8 October, a program of Spanish Renaissance music will be presented by Dança Amorosa directed by Ann Allen. On 10 October the Brighton Consort, conducted by Deborah Roberts will perform a concert of choral and festive music under the title “Splendours of Portugal”. On 3 October Mediva conducted by Ann Allen introduce “Mother’s Love”, a program consisting of medieval music of Spanish origins.
“Moon Sun & All Things” is the title of the program scheduled for 15 October. It is performed by Ex Cathedra and the QuintEssential Cornett and Sackbut Ensemble, directed by Jeffrey Skidmore. On 20 October The Orlando Consort will perform a programme of music by Machaut, including the Messe de Nostre Dame.
One of the Festival highlights takes place on 21 October, when a concert of Spanish baroque music featuring Emma Kirkby, soprano, Catherine Kina, mezzosoprano and Andrew Carwood, tenor, the BREMF Singers and Players conducted by Deborah Roberts will take place. It will include the Missa Scala Aretina de Francisco Valls, and villancicos by Joan Cererols. On 27 October Monica Huggett and Sonnerie will perform an all-Bach programme.
The festival concludes with some of the soloists from The Tallis Scholars performing excerpts from Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte.
