29 August to 7 September 2008. The OudeMusik festival this summer in Utrecht honours the Centuries of Gold of Spain’s musical renaissance. With the goal of highlighting the values of music composed after 1492, the turning point in Spain’s musical and cultural history, and starting of a period of creative splendour that lasted into the 17th century, the festival dedicates more than 50 concerts (90% of the programme), lectures and exhibits to this topic and pays tribute to a music that has taken a long time in gaining the respect it deserves.
24 August to 2 September. Having past its quarter century of existence last year, the Utrecht Early Music Festival for 2007 continues to provide one of the most ambitious and concentrated schedules of any music festival. As usual, this year’s festival has several themes and sub-themes, the most intriguing of which is the overall rubric 'Ars Audiendi' (The Art of Listening), which will experiment with this little-explored aspect of musical experience.
