The Festival opens with a programme of works by Bach (Brandenburg Concerto No. 6 and Cantata No. 54, Wiederstehe doch der Sünde), Vivaldi (L’Estro Armonico, op. 3) and Buxtehude (the cantata Jubilate Domino) performed by The Avison Ensemble under the direction of Pavlo Beznosiuk, appearing with the countertenor James Bowman and Sarah Cunningham.
On 7 September, the young musicians of Ensemble L’Aia will perform "Crossing Borders", including sonatas and cantatas by Telemann, Handel, Marais and Monteclair. On 8 September, Benjamin Bagby - voice and lyre - will perform "Beowulf", a programme of medieval music in the original Anglo-Saxon. On 9 September, the Irish Baroque Orchestra Chamber Players under the direction of Monica Huggett will present a programme of sonatas by Handel, Purcell and Corelli.
The Festival closes on 10 September with two concerts; the first will be given by the harpsichordist Malcom Proud, performing J. S. Bach’s The Art of Fugue, and the second will be a programme of 12th-15th century Irish, English, French and Spanish works under the heading "Songs for Kings and Commoners", performed by the group White Raven in conjunction with the soprano Kathleen Dineen.
