The festival is set in the palaces, churches and gardens of the beautiful Czech capital, which convert it into a stimulating cultural centre each summer. The festival is organised by the Collegium Marianum Historical and Cultural Centre. As can be deduced from the festival’s title, this year Mozart’s Don Giovanni forms the central theme of the concerts.
The festival opens with the program "Music in Paris in Mozart’s Time", featuring works by Johann Schobert, J. Fr. Edelmann and J. G. Eckard performed by Miklós Spányi, fortepiano and Petri Tapio Mattson, violin. The Stadler Trio is scheduled to perform the program "A tre corni di bassetto" on 20 July; La Real Cámara and the soprano Raquel Andueza the programme "Music in Goya’s Time" on 21 July; and the Salzburger Hofmusik a program of works by Mozart, Leopold Mozart, Haydn and Joseph Wölfl on 22 July.
On 27 July L’Eventail and the Collegium Marianum Orchestra will perform a baroque ballet program based on the figure of Don Juan featuring Gluck’s Don Juan ou le Festin de Pierre and Rebel’s Les Éléments. On 6 August Pergolesi’s opera La Serva Padrona will be performed by the Collegium Marianum, with Marie Fajtová, Tomás Král and Laurent Charoy.
The Collegium Marianum Orchestra is this year’s resident ensemble at the festival and is made up of young Czech musicians specialising in historical performance, especially seventeenth- and eighteenth-century music. In recent years the orchestra has been led by prestigious conductors including Andrew Parrott, Simon Standage, Chiara Banchini and Peter Kooij and has participated in numerous festivals and programs both within the Czech Republic and abroad. Its artistic director is Jana Semerádová.
