Mozart's 'Coronation' Mass at St Peter's in the Vatican: Over the last five years the Pro Musica e Arte Sacro Foundation of Roma has organised an annual international music festival that takes place in the Italian capital with some of the city’s most spectacular artistic and religious settings as a backdrop.

These settings are undoubtedly one of the greatest attractions of this programme, which takes place during November. This year various celebrations coincide, as reflected in the festival program. Mozart is the main feature of all the concerts except the first.

A preview of the program announced for the inauguration in St Peter’s Basilica includes the singing of Vespers with Gregorian chant, by the Giulia Music Chapel of the Basilica conducted by the maestro di cappella Pablo Colino. On 16 November, in the Basilica of Santa Maria la Maggiora, the Exsultate Jubilate, KV 165 and other Marian works by Mozart will be given by the Cologne Cathedral Choir and the Salzburg Cathedral Orchestra, conducted by Eberhard Metternich. On 17 November, in the Basilica of Saint John in Lateran there will be a performance of the C-minor Mass, KV 427 (417a) by the Spira Cathedral Choir and the Salzburg Cathedral Orchestra, conducted by Leo Krämer.

On Saturday 18 November in the Basilica of St Paul’s Outside the Walls, the Salzburg Cathedral Choir and Orchestra under Janosch Czifra will perform the Requiem, KV 626. For the closing on the morning of 19 November, it’s back to St Peter’s, where the “Coronation” Mass, KV 317 will be performed during the solemn Sunday Mass by the Vienna Philharmonic and the Choirs of the cathedrals of Cologne, Salzburg and Spira, conducted by Leopold Hager.
