The event brings together luthiers, manufacturers and distributors of all kinds of instrument, from copies of period instruments to electronic music; recording labels and publishers specialising in sheet music and books; the major French and European federations and associations; musical training centres and projects; professionals from the worlds of both musical production and performance; and institutions - both public and private - with an interest in the field of music.
Musicora encourages dialogue and debate on specific topics such as the role of private enterprise in sponsoring performers and new productions. Last year the Louvre welcomed 280 exhibitors and more than 20,000 visitors to the event. There are numerous parallel activities during the festival, including lectures, debates and round table discussions, some ninety concerts, activities for schoolchildren, and many others. This year, for the first time, there will be four specialist exhibition areas devoted respectively to early music, instrument making, piano and organ, and to professional institutions and associations.
In terms of visitors, those representing the various aspects of performance- artists, agents, theatre and festival managers – form the largest group; others include cultural directors of institutions and regional government, professionals from the fields of publishing and the media, teachers at conservatoires and music schools, and also a large number of non-professional music enthusiasts. Once again, this important annual European music fair provides an opportunity to take the pulse of a sector which is always seeking new paths of renewal.
