Festival de Pontoise : A programme crammed full of wonderful surprises
22-07-2006
This year’s 21st Pontoise Festival offers some twenty concerts at eleven different venues around Val d’Oise. One of this year’s highlights is the series of three concerts focusing on the collaboration between Eastern and Western music, with the participation of musicians from Turkey and Syria.

As in previous years, the Festival also continues its emphasis on the rediscovery of composers, this year featuring works bySchmelzer, Graupner and Mazzocchi, among others.

For the opening concert, Festival Director Patrick Lhotellier has selected a programme entitled "Music at the Ottoman and European Courts in the 17th century", performed jointly by a Turkish music group under the direction of Hakan Cevher and Jean Gaillard’s Ensemble Suonare.

The festival’s excellent, original and highly attractive programme includes five particularly interesting concerts. The first of these, scheduled for 16 September, is a programme entitled "L’amour de Madeleine" including works by Monteverdi, Agneletti and Charpentier, performed by Concerto Soave and Maria-Christina Kiehr under the direction of Jean-Marc Aymes. On 22 September, Françoise Lasserre’s Ensemble Akadêmia will perform Le memorie dolorose, rappresentatione sacra al SS. Sepolcro di Christo by Johann-Heinrich Schmelzer.

On 23 September the Festival will stage Marco Marazzoli’s opera sacra La Vita Humana in a performance by Vincent Dumestre and his ensemble Le Poème Harmonique. On 6 October, Antoni Salieri’s Mass in D minor and Mozart’s Requiem will be performed by the ensemble Arsys Bourgogne under the direction of Pierre Cao and the ensemble Stradivaria under the direction of Daniel Cuiller. On 8 October, Geneviève Soly’s Les Idées heureuses will present a programme entitled "Le Projet Graupner".

Finally, on 22 October, Jérôme Corréas and his ensemble Les Paladins will offer the closing concert of the festival, entitled "Scènes Bibliques", featuring music by Domenico Mazzochi.
