IX Bar le Duc Renaissance Festival : Trips abroad
30-05-2006
Bar le Duc is a city with a rich urban and architectural heritage, a jewel of Renaissance art. Every years its streets and venues play host to this festival, which also encompasses theatre and street markets, apart from music.

Four days of intense activity featuring 30 theatre companies, 50 different programs and over 200 performances of different kinds, all coordinated by the festival’s director Jerôme Montchal under the generic title "Voyages forains" (Trips Abroad).

The music side of the festival opens on Thursday 29 June with "Music in the Times of the Three Musketeers" by Jean Tubéry’s Ensemble La Fenice. "Un flamenco renaissance" is the title of the program to be presented by Denis Raisin-Dadre’s Ensemble Doulce Memoire on 30 June.

"Le Bel Esprit", a blend of music, dance and poetry will be presented by Vincent Dumestre’s Le Poème Harmonique on 1 July. And the same day the Orchestre National Breton will perform under the baton of Roland Becker. On 2 July the ensemble Alla Francesca will present a program consisting of music from France and Italy during the 14th and 15th centuries.

The market, the castle esplanade, and the city heights are the settings for the majority of the street performances programmed over these four days. As in previous years, the festival ends with an audiovisual program bound to have a great impact. 29 June to 2 July
