Directed by organettist Guillermo Pérez, the ensemble will perform the program “Meyster ob allen Meystern”, repertoire based on music composed by Germany’s Conrad Paumann and the German keyboard school of the 15th century. The selection explores the art of improvisation and the fantasy of counterpoint through a rich collection of preludes, chansons and dance tablatures.
This program earned Tasto Solo first prize at the IYAP-Early Music contest in 2006. The next group scheduled to play in Olivares is Folengo, which centres its performances on the Renaissance and baroque periods. Directed by lute player Aníbal Soriano, it offers a Renaissance program entitled “Bacas por otro lado”. Closing the festival will be Laberintos Ingeniosos, a duo composed of guitarist Xavier Díaz-Latorre and percussionist Pedro Estevan.
Their program “Sones de Palacio y danzas de rasgueado” is based on music composed by Gaspar Sanz (1640-1710), a Spanish guitarist who was born in Villa de Calanda, in Teruel province. His work is considered one of the most complete guitar treatises of his time and is entitled Instrucción de Música sobre la guitarra española y Método de sus primeros rudimentos… The Olivares Early Music Festival is a well-established concert series within this genre in Spain.
Operating with a modest budget, Olivares has managed in recent years to present programming and artists of such stature as Paolo Pandolfo, Paul O´dette, Hopkinson Smith, Micrologus, Capella de Ministriles, José Miguel Moreno, Alia Música, Artefactum, Orquesta Barroca de Sevilla, Armoniosi Concerti and Odhecaton, among others. The festival is organized and sponsored by the Municipal Government of Olivares, and receives support from the Provincial Government of Seville, the Regional Government of Andalusia and the savings bank Cajasol.
