Organ Music in Castilla and Leon
29-06-2007
30 June to 25 August.
The Ars Orgánica (Organ Art) program organized by the Siglo Foundation for the Arts in Castilla and Leon, a body that answers to the regional culture ministry, has become a classic on the summer music calendar.

It has evolved year after year and taken on a personality all its own, so much so that it is probably the most appealing organ festival of all those held in Spain. This year it features 19 concerts that begin on 30 June in the cathedral of Salamanca, with organist Guy Bovet performing a programme of Spanish music from the 16th to 19th centuries.

On 1 July Lorenzo Ghielmi will appear in the parish of San Juan Bautista in Santoyo, Palencia province, to play works by Buxtehude, Storace, and D. Scarlatti, among others. José Luis Echechipía will perform a program by Spanish composers on 7 July at the Royal Monastery in Las Huelgas, in Valladolid. Organist Miquel González and violinist Andrei Frolow will team up on 8 July at the parish of Nuestra Señora de Lourdes in Salamanca to perform a program of works by Bach, Corelli and Handel. On 14 July, Francesco Cera heads to the parish of Santa María la Real in Leon to serve up a repertoire of Italian-Spanishs works by Cabezón, Correa, Frescobaldi and Trabaci.

At the collegiate church of San Pedro de Lerma in Burgos, Luis Dalda will perform works by 16th century Spanish composers on 15 July. Six days later, at the Carmelite convent in Burgo de Osma, Soria province, the group Ars Eolo, composed of organist Loreto Aramendi and trumpeteers Sergio Guarné and Erlantz Fernandez, will perform a wide-ranging programme that includes contemporary music by Houhaness and Duruflé. On 22 July at the church of San Andrés in Carrión de los Condes, in Palencia province, Heinrich Walther offers a repertoire centring on Buxtehude and Bach.

On the 28th at the church of San Eutropio in El Espinar, Segovia province, Roberto Fresco will play anonymous works and pieces by Sweelinck, Strozzi and Couperin. The next day, Rui Paiva offers a programme with a heavy accent on Portuguese composers at the church of Asunción in La Seca, Valladolid. On 3 August at the church of Nuestra Señora de la Merced in Burgos, Luca Scandali will play works by Julios Reubke and other romance composers. On 4 August, in the cathedral of Ciudad Rodrigo in the province of Salamanca, Scandali will play repertoire that employs both organs in that church, with works by Correa, Storace and Buxtehude, among others.

On 5 August, Silvia Márquez will perform works by Kirnberger and Kuhnauat at the church of Asunción in El Barco, Avila. On the 10th at the church of San Andrés in Valladolid, Johan Hermans will play works by Cornet, Bull, and Bruna. On 11 August, at the parish of San Martín de Tours in Cívico de la Torre, Palencia, Miquel Bernal performs a concert of works by Spanish composers. Spanish repertoire is also scheduled by Saskia Roures at the parish of San Andrés in Palacios Rubios, Salamanca, on the 12th.

On 18 August, at the parish of San Juan in Castrojeriz, Burgos, Magdalena Malec will be offering the concert. At the parish of San Ildefonso in Zamora, Slava Chevliakov will perform works by Clérambault and Couperin, and closing the series on 25 August at the cathedral of Salamanca, Elisabeth Ullmann will play works by Spanish composers and Leopold Mozart.
