La Caravaggia will present the same program at this year’s 4th Sant Martí Vell Early Music Cycle, in Girona. Apart from this interesting event, the cycle organised by the Elsa Peretti Foundation will feature four other outstanding concerts from 29 June to 27 July.
The Festival begins with Bach’s Coffee Cantata, performed by the Conjunt Barroc del Cafè, the vocal soloists Susanna Puig, Xavier Mendoza and Jordi Mas and the actors Quim Lecina and Llorenç Blasi. This co-production between the Tiana Early Music Festival, the Setmana de Música Antigua de Mataró and the Sant Martí Vell Early Music Cycle is an original concert. Using a text written by Josep Pujol, excerpts from Bach’s Suite No. 2 in B minor will be juxtaposed with the Coffee Cantata.
On 6 July the prestigious lutenist Andreas Martin will perform works by Bach and his contemporaries, and on 13 July Ensemble 415 under Chiara Banchini will perform a program titled “Luigi Boccherini’s Sentiment and Virtuosity”. Following La Caravaggia’s concert on 20 July, the viola da gamba player Marianne Müller will conclude the cycle. This concert will take place on 27 July. From Thursday 26th until Sunday 29th, Müller will run a workshop in which six students will have the privilege to attend her classes with scholarships from the Elsa Peretti Foundation. Entry to all of the concerts in the cycle is free of charge, and they will all be held at 10pm at the church of Sant Martí Vell, except the first, which will take place in the town plaza.
