The 18 concerts programmed for 2007 will take place in the usual venues, as well as in three new and symbolic sites: the Iglesia de la Merced, the Capilla del Espíritu Santo inside the Cathedral and the Iglesia de Santa Cruz.
Another novelty for next year’s festival, taking advantage of the recent restoration of the Epistle organ in the Cathedral, is a conference about this instrument, dedicated to Julián de la Orden, who built the organ. The conference will include concerts, round-table discussions and visits to both this and other organs from the Cuenca area.
For the first time this year, the Semana will also produce three staged works and a children’s concert featuring the choirboys of the Conservatorio de Cuenca, the children in the audience and the Conservatory’s flute ensemble. The resident musician of the Semana, which will maintain its association with Holy Week celebrations in Cuenca by hosting the complete traditional Gregorian offices at the Cathedral, will be Vittorio Ghielmi, who will give various concerts.
The complete program of the Semana will be made public in the next few weeks and will be included in our January-February issue.
