La Principessa Filosofa is made up of Catalan musicians who perform with some of the leading historical-instrument ensembles in Europe.
The orchestra made its debut in Naples on 7 October last year. With a program based on works by different composers of the Catalan-speaking countries, the orchestra will present two concerts in Torroella.
Marek Stryncl will conduct the first on Saturday 5 August, which features the Spanish premiere of Mozart’s oratorio Die Schuldigkeit des ersten Gebots, K.35. On Tuesday 8 August, under the baton of Farran James, the orchestra will perform a program based on the orchestral music of the second half of the 18th century in Catalonia. The concert is this year’s homage to the memory of Ernest Lluch i Martín and includes works by Josep Pons, Carles Baguer and Domènec Terradellas.
The soprano María Bayo, the festival’s guest soloist this year, will present three concerts. The first consists of Mozart arias with the Prague Chamber Orchestra conducted by Graziella Contratto; the second songs by Catalan composers accompanied by Roger Vignoles, piano; and the third works by Nebra and Handel, accompanied in this case by Al Ayre Español. The concerts will take place on 6, 14 and 22 August.
